SPECIFICS / BUILD INFORMATION

YOU WILL NOT FIND A NICER SAMCO/CORD ROYALE!!

This is a absolutly stunning, Factory-built SAMCO Cord Royale.  Absolutely no expense was spared in building this beautiful car. This is a 4 owner car. The last owner has owned this car for 15 years,  four of which was building it. A Total of $85,000 was spent to create this collector car.  It is both stunning to look at, and an incredible performance vehicle to drive. The vehicle has 291 miles on it from when the build was complete.

The paint is Range Rover Ivory code XW15. The paint-work was done by a high-end shop that specializes in luxury cars, and this work was done to the same standards. All chrome and brightwork is new, and done to show-quality standards. The convertible top is one year old. Made of high quality canvas.

All of the wood is handcrafted out of Cherry. The seats are new, made of high quality leather. The gauges are made by Classic Instruments. The carpet is new. All of the interior is only one year old. Air Conditioning and heating are both provided by Vintage Air products. It has a new Alpine radio.

The engine is a Chrysler 440 cubic inch, bolted to a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission. It has a 113 inch wheelbase. The Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, and all tires are new. The exhaust is dual stainless steel headers into a single collector.

We truly can not say enough about this car. You really need to see it in person. A true show winning car.

Short script from previous owner:

Over a generation ago, Gordon M. Buehrig designed an ageless prestigious automobile. It was unexcelled in style and performance  . the year was 1936, and the car was the first front wheel drive Cord, Model 810. In those days, the Cord owner drove his car with a pride of ownership apart from any other motorist, and if is still driving it today, his social status has not suffered for he has unusually good taste wherever he goes. More than seven decades have passed since the Cord has its debut, and all these years of automotive progress lie between us and the first car. Now, applying the modified use of an outstanding design, with the wheelbase scaled down to eight-tenths size of the original car, combined with years of progress in the industry, we are again presenting a car for a new millennium and a new generation of auto enthusiasts. No other car has ever captured the public awareness for esteem and prestige, both then and now.

1936 Cord 810 - $125,000 - Houston, TX -

1936 Cord 810 Phaeton,  This car is a really nice older restoration that was once a Classic Car Club National First when it was done.  Exterior is the correct Cadet Grey paint with red leather interior and a newer black convertible top.  This car was restored in the late 80’s by Joe Kaufmann whom is well known in the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club and the car still looks really good for its age.  The perfect driver quality car.  The car starts, runs, shifts and stops well.  It has been properly maintained since the restoration.  The car is an ACD Club certified original car, category #1.

Excellent automobile for Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club (ACD), CCCA or AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Club events and tours.

Ready to Drive, Show and Enjoy.

1937 Cord - $97,500 - St. Louis, MO - At first glance the Cord 810/812 may not seem like it is a car born of the Great Depression. But at that time high end manufacturers were struggling to sell their extravagant machines and many resorted to developing lower priced models to make up sales. Packard developed the Junior series Lincoln added the Zephyr and GM introduced LaSalle to fit between Buick and Cadillac. Even Duesenberg wasn’t immune to the pressure and work was begun on a “baby” Duesenberg that could help pick up the slack in sales. Partially through its development the baby Duesenberg idea was dropped as it was thought it could cheapen the brand. But E.L. Cord the man in charge of Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg saw great potential in the design and pressed forward to produce it as an all-new Cord. The Cord L-29 had been out of production for some time and E.L. saw this as an opportunity to revive the brand that bore his name. Development went ahead and the 810/812 was realized by 1936. In spite of its “entry level” roots technical boundaries were pushed to the limits. Drawing inspiration from the Citroen Traction Avant Cord designers gave the 810 a semi-monocoque chassis and it was the first American car with both front wheel drive and independent front suspension. Motivation was courtesy of a Lycoming V8 engine and a solenoid actuated pre-selector transmission. Of course the most distinguishing feature of the 810/812 was its Gordon Buehrig-designed bodywork. The front end featured curvaceous fenders with hidden headlights – a first for a production car. Rather than a traditional radiator shell the Cord’s radiator was hidden behind a sleek and unorthodox wraparound grille and a uniquely shaped hood which earned it the nickname “Coffin Nose”. Fully extended doors no running boards and a sleek minimally adorned body gave the 810 its distinct appearance. Nearly 80 years later the Cord 810/812 is still considered to be one of the greatest American car designs in history. As the 810 evolved into the 812 for 1937 some models gained a supercharger while others remained naturally aspirated. The 812 is easily distinguished by its outside exhaust flex-pipes a necessity of the supercharged cars that carried through the rest of the range. Several body styles were available from four-door sedans to the open-air phaeton. One of the rarest and most attractive body styles is known as the Custom Beverly. As the name would imply the Custom Beverly was built to special order and it rode on a longer wheelbase than the standard Beverly. An 8-louver hood also set it apart from the standard car. This stunning 1937 812 Custom Beverly is an exquisite example of this rare and desirable Cord. It has been treated to an extensive “frame-up” restoration by the highly respected specialists at LeVine Restorations of Nappanee Indiana. It is clear that a great deal of money was lavished upon this car to achieve such incredible results. Gorgeous non-metallic dark blue paint blackwall tires and chrome wheel covers impart an elegant yet ever so slightly sinister look. The paintwork chrome restoration and fit/finish have all been beautifully executed to concours levels. Striking indigo blue upholstery accented with subtle gray piping complements the paint color magnificently. As with the exterior the cabin has been restored to a very high standard and presents in fresh beautiful condition. The body-color dash proudly carries the distinctive aviation-inspired instrument panel with a comprehensive array of gauges set into a polished engine turned alloy panel. This example is also equipped with a radio and directional signals. The engine bay is beautifully detailed with the normally aspirated Lycoming V8 showing very little evidence of use since the restoration was completed. It is still equipped with the correct pre-selector transmission and the undercarriage is tidy and very nicely presented. Included with the sale are restoration receipts and photos and owner’s manual. Combining rarity iconic style and an undeniably imposing presence this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a gorgeous Cord 812 Custom Beverly that will be welcome at most any event.

1937 Cord 810 - $149,998 - Volo, IL - "whether or not old Cord owners want to admit the truth, if an original Cord and this recreation were placed side by side on a 1937 showroom floor, chances are excellent that 99% of the buyers would choose this recreation"Looks like a Pebble Beach show car but drives like a new Mercedes.  This car was custom built for a car collector and longtime Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club member who has owned several Cords including a concourse winning 1937 Cabriolet.  He built this car because he wanted a worry free driver. It took over 2 years and nearly a quarter million dollars to complete.   During his years as a Cord enthusiast, the builder had acquired a large collection of authentic, original Cord parts; which he used on this car to ensure a near exact replica. This car features original Cord instruments, Electro-vac shifter, steering column and wheel, door handles, window cranks, chrome, hardware and other accessories.  The chrome top irons were fabricated using original Cord top irons as a template.  It’s a fully functional, same as original top that’s wrapped in a rich canvas.  The headlights crank open and close same as the originals do.A lot of efforts went into concealing the cars modern amenities.  There are micro switches in the window cranks to operate the power windows.  An automatic shifter is hidden under the dash and a faux clutch pedal was even installed to further convince any aficionado.  The interior is finished in doeskin leather upholstery.  While the dash looks ‘1937’ it too has some hidden surprises like ice cold air-conditioning and heat.  There are also switches to electronically open the hood and trunk.Under the car is a custom chassis with independent coil-over front suspension, with power disc brakes and power steering.  It is powered by a reliable and easy to maintain Chevrolet 350 engine and turbo 350 transmissions.  The body is a Don Loux fiberglass body that had been straightened and fitted to the same finish as a steel body.  The paint is high gloss with a mirror-like reflection. The cars trim, lights and accessories are original Cord items with the highest standard of chrome plating.  This is truly a one of a kind car that cannot be compared to any other replica in existence.  The dimensions and authenticity are far superior than the factory built Glenn Prey models and while Don Loux advertised a turnkey car being available for $70k, he was unable to produce a single one.  Only about 12 bodies were produced and one turnkey project was started but never completed; the unfinished car had already exceeded the $70k budget.  The bodies, molds and unfinished project have since been sold off.Titled as a 1937 Cord, there has been only about 75 miles put on this car since it was completed.  Even the owner felt he had overshot his mark of building a driver when creating this functional piece of rolling art.   OPTIONS & ACCESSORIES: A/C                         FOG LAMPS POWER STEERING POWER DISC BRAKES POWER WINDOWS POWER HOOD POWER TRUNK POWER LOCKS WHITE WALL TIRES  INFORMATION IS TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE

1930 Cord L-29 - Auction - Auburn, INDIANA - 1930 Cord L-29 Convertible Phaeton Sedan

To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at Auctions America’s Auburn Fall event, September 2-6, 2015.

Estimate:
$175,000 - $225,000

Errett Lobban Cord was only one of many earnest, skilled and dedicated entrepreneurs whose dream of establishing an automotive empire to rival Ford, GM and Chrysler was dashed. At one time E.L. Cord controlled the Checker and Yellow cab companies, Duesenberg, Lycoming, Stinson Aircraft and American Airways, among a portfolio of 156 companies. A master salesman who worked his way up through the automobile business, the basis of Cord’s industrial empire was Auburn Manufacturing, which he acquired in 1924. He set to work to resuscitate Auburn and succeeded by creating a performance image that helped sell mundane, but profitable, sedans.

The 1930s in America were like no other time in automotive history. There was no limit on grandeur, if money could buy it, it would be thought of, and if it could be thought of it was most likely being done so at the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Company in Auburn, Indiana. Perhaps one of the most opulent cars of the era, the Cord L-29 was not only lavish, but also ground-breaking in many ways. Cord has long been known in period and today for its well-known engineering standards of the time. The L-29 featured front-wheel drive and to accommodate this design platform, many things were changed throughout the L-29 to make it a success and indeed unique amongst its contemporaries.

Presented here is a solid original car with a very nice older restoration. This Cord has been in the caring hands of the current owner since 1973 and has completed many car tours. Before that, it was believed to have been used by the cast of “Gone With the Wind” as transportation to the premier of the movie in Atlanta, Georgia in 1939.

Under the hood is a 301-cid inline eight-cylinder engine that is married to a three-speed manual transmission. The outside is adorned with twin taillights, chrome wheels with whitewall tires, painted hubs, rare stone guard, dual side-mounted spare tires and a trunk rack with trunk that fits well. The white paint with a blue belt line shows to be in nice order, along with the tan leather interior.

Like most cars of the period the Cord L-29 was offered in many different body styles per customer request. As such we are left with many magnificent automobiles derived from imaginative, no-limits designs from this bygone era. The Cord L-29 today is coveted as one of the all-time greats and is a CCCA Full Classic today.

There were two front-wheel drive American cars announced in 1929, and they were produced by two of the most dynamic and colorful entrepreneurs in the American automobile industry at that time. Errett Lobban Cord and Archie Andrews (Ruxton) were the two individuals and Cord was able to introduce his version first.

The Cord automobile was part of the Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg empire and considered as one of the finest and most stylish automobiles to ever grace the roads of America. The Cord L-29 was introduced in 1929, and the motivation for the car was to fill the price gap in the Cord Corporation between the popularly priced Auburn and the upper echelon of the grand Model J Duesenberg that had also recently been introduced.

The first successful car to have front-wheel drive, Cords had lower bodies than traditional rear-wheel drive cars, which made them exceptionally stylish. The Great Depression of the 1930s caused the mighty Cord L-29 to cease production in 1932. However, in 1935, a new front-wheel drive Cord appeared. With an Art Deco body, it was unlike anything the American public had ever seen. Styled by Gordon Buehrig, it featured pop-up headlights, a coffin-shaped grille, and immediately became one of the most stylistically distinct cars in American automotive history. “Rolling Sculpture” has been used to describe this era of automobiles, and rightfully so.

The Cord being offered is reported by the owner as one of the last produced before the company's dissolution in 1937, plus it is one of the actual 1937 Cord Model 812s built, not one of the rebadged 1936 Cords. When the vehicle rolled out of the factory it was a Westchester sedan with a non-supercharged engine. The vehicle carries Serial Number 2031 A and Engine Number FB 2833. The original Westchester body carried body number C 90 957.

The known ownership of this Cord can only be tracked back to 1970 when it was owned by Mr. Roy Fuiman. By this time, the car is believed to have already had the extensive modifications completed, or they were possibly executed during the ownership of Mr. Fuiman. These modifications include a modified steel roadster body in place of the Westchester sedan, and a Cord convertible windshield was installed on the body, plus a supercharger added to the powerplant. The car is stated to still retain its original hood, front fenders, rear fenders and original (now supercharger-modified) engine and front-wheel drive unit.

In 1971 the vehicle was offered for sale at the Hershey Swap Meet by Thomas Trexall, in 1972 the Cord was registered by Tom Ochiuzzo. Later in 1972, this custom-bodied Cord was registered to Frank Martucci of New York. The vehicle was mentioned in two articles published in the ACD Newsletter; one article is found in issue number 8 of 1972 on pages 13 & 14. The second article ran in issue number 2 of 1977 on page 12.

Finished in Cigarette Cream with a rich tan-tone interior, this unique Cord has many of the original characteristics and components of this longtime favorite.
